About The Position

Amentum is looking for a Facilities Watch Officer to join our team. Essential Responsibilities: The Facilities Watch Officer (FWO) is responsible for the centralized monitoring, coordination, and operational oversight of critical facility infrastructure, ensuring continuous functionality of mechanical, electrical, HVAC/R, and fire systems in mission-critical environments. The role requires proactive system monitoring, incident response, and collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure the safety, reliability, and uninterrupted operation of essential systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of combined experience operating mechanical and electrical systems, with at least two (2) years of specialized experience monitoring and controlling major critical facility infrastructures, including HVAC/R systems, fire protection systems, and critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Extensive knowledge of the operations and maintenance of HVAC/R, electrical, and fire protection systems within large-scale or mission-critical facilities.
  • Familiarity with system monitoring platforms, including SCADA, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and similar tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, capable of assessing complex system failures and determining effective solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of safety standards, including OSHA requirements, NFPA codes, and standard operating procedures for high-risk environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Poly
  • Certification in HVAC/R systems, electrical maintenance, or related fields.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or equivalent for handling refrigerants.
  • Additional certifications in SCADA or Building Automation Systems (BAS) operation are preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree or Technical Certification in Facilities Management, Mechanical or Electrical Systems, or a related field.
  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship or professional training program related to facilities operations.
  • Experience working in mission-critical environments (e.g., data centers, government facilities, military bases).
  • Additional certifications, such as LEED Accredited Professional (AP), Facility Management Professional (FMP), or Certified Facilities Manager (CFM).
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency practices, load management, and renewable energy systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Systems Monitoring & Control: Monitor, control, and operate critical facility infrastructure systems, including Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R); fire protection systems; and critical electrical systems (e.g., UPS, generators, and power distribution units). Utilize Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Building Automation Systems (BAS), and other control systems to ensure continuous oversight over facility systems. Track key performance metrics, trends, and alarms to detect and resolve anomalies before they escalate.
  • Incident Management & Emergency Response: Serve as the first point of contact for facility infrastructure alarms, abnormalities, or emergencies, ensuring rapid assessment and resolution to minimize downtime. Coordinate with facilities personnel, engineering teams, and external vendors to address critical system disruptions. Escalate incidents and provide detailed briefings to management to ensure swift corrective action and appropriate operational continuity measures.
  • Preventative Maintenance Coordination: Monitor maintenance schedules and ensure proper execution of preventative maintenance to prevent unplanned outages. Adjust system configurations to facilitate maintenance, ensuring adherence to operational and safety protocols. Provide support to technicians and engineers during planned and unplanned maintenance events.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of facility operations, incidents, maintenance activities, and system changes. Generate and prepare detailed shift handover reports, outage reports, and performance metrics for management review. Maintain up-to-date records of system diagrams, schematics, and operational documentation.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards for facilities operation. Conduct safety reviews, participate in system audits, and adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) and other safety procedures during system interventions.
  • Team Collaboration & Communication: Act as a central point of communication between management, technicians, and contracted service teams for operational readiness and issue resolution. Provide technical guidance to team members during shifts and support decision-making for complex or urgent situations.
