About The Position

The Facilities Utilities Coordinator for Building Mechanical Systems reports to the Healthcare Facilities Manager and is responsible for the maintaining of building mechanical system operations at Marquam Hill Healthcare facilities. Responsibilities include coordinating staff, vendors, and contractors to accomplish modifications, maintenance, repairs, renovations, energy usage monitoring, and materials management. This employee serves as the steward of healthcare facilities preventive maintenance program, as well as the steward of the mechanical capital renewal program. This requires a high degree of problem solving in a fast paced, team-based atmosphere. The Facilities Utilities Coordinator for Building Mechanical Systems acts as the owner's representative on mechanical projects, working directly with project coordinators, technicians or mechanical contractors on small mechanical projects and as an integral part of the project team for medium to large mechanical capital projects. This role supports the institutional mission and vision by providing safe, compliant, reliable, and inviting facilities. This individual plays a key role in compliance with DNV, CMS, OSHA, and all authorities having regulatory jurisdiction. Success in this position is critical to maintaining uninterrupted business operations for the healthcare mission, and directly contributes to achieving OHSU¿s financial and mission goals.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with progressive leadership experience of 5 years duration in applicable field; OR
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in electrical trades, boiler making, or pipe fitting trades with progressive leadership experience of 7 years duration; OR
  • 10 years' experience in combination of educational, trades and leadership to coordinate a large and complex utilities distribution network.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration, HVAC and HVAC controls systems, both pneumatic and DDC. Mechanical systems such as pumps, motors and controls.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar area.
  • 5 years of journey level experience repair and maintenance of commercial building mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Metasys OR Apogee (Johnson Controls OR Siemens) Building Automation System controls.
  • CFC Certification (Universal).
  • Brazing Certification.
  • Electrical license of at least Limited Maintenance or low voltage.
  • Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager Certification.
  • Certified Healthcare Constructor Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily communication and support for team leaders.
  • Participate in daily team meetings to review individual and team issues and workloads, and coordinate efforts between work crews.
  • Escalate needs, as appropriate, to manager for support.
  • Maintain communication with the leaders of the other Healthcare operational areas (as well as across missions) and internal and external customers to ensure they remain partners in our goal of continuous improvement.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the teams.
  • Ensure team members remain current with the required training for their respective areas.
  • Acts as the ultimate technician in areas of responsibility, providing the final direction on technical aspects of building/utility systems.
  • The Facilities Utilities Coordinator for Building Mechanical Systems is expected to serve as the system owner and identify long- and short-term strategies, provide recommendations, and document master construction standards/specifications for their systems.
  • Coordinate closely with all other stakeholders in order to balance all factors, such as: reliability vs. efficiency, initial cost vs. long-term cost, local needs vs. campus-wide needs.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot or collaborate with others to resolve the most technically complex system issues.
  • Coordinates the operation, repair and maintenance of all building/utility systems within assigned area; coordinates and authorizes corrective and preventive maintenance and repair of all building systems; coordinates all system shutdowns.
  • Performs, coordinates and authorizes all repairs and renovations for assigned area; maintains a library of drawings, floor plans, and related information; acts as initial responder for all critical building system malfunctions on evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts, within an established coordinator on call schedule; may perform or assist with repairs in other areas.
  • Works with Healthcare Facilities Manager, Supervisor and Facility Trades/Maintenance Coordinators to establish and design accountability program for tools, parts and supplies; establishes necessary shop space; sets up tool rooms and parts storage; ensures all materials are properly labeled, stored and handled appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Healthcare Facilities Director or Manager.
