The City of Roanoke is seeking an Electrician to serve with the General Services Department. This position will Repair, maintain, and install wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, appliances, circuits, wiring and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with (NEC) National Electrical Code and local regulations. Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions. Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations. Must be able to climb/work on ladders/lifts to reach high ceilings or walls. May assist supervisor/foreman with layout sketches, material lists and time estimates. Repairs and maintains high voltage systems. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to five years of experience and/or training in the trades area assigned or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires possession of a valid VA driver's permit, depending on area of assignment, may require possession of a valid Class A, B or C commercial driver's license. Mechanical Division (Electrician) requires a minimum of a journeyman level electrician license, will be provided 18 months to obtain a Virginia State Master Electrician Certification.
