About The Position

The Facilities Technician is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a role that is directly involved in the creation of a positive and safe environment for all of Bird Alliance of Oregon’s staff, volunteers, and program participants, helping pave the way for the organization to continue its focus and commitment to its mission: to inspire all people to love and protect nature. The Facilities Tech is responsible for responding to and performing day-to-day maintenance requests involving the operations of Bird Alliance of Oregon’s facilities, which include multiple buildings in Portland, a youth education camp in Sandy, OR, and a closed landfill in east Portland. The Facilities Technician is a member of the Operations team, and reports to the Assistant Director of Operations, Facilities & Sanctuaries. This is a full-time position. Must be able to occasionally work after-hours, nights, and weekends, and respond to emergencies as necessary. The duties of the Facilities Technician include, but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Class C driver's license to operate company vehicle(s) as needed
  • Ability to acquire certifications for: Fall Protection Skid Steer Aerial Lift 24 or 40-hour HAZWOPER

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of related experience in facilities maintenance or relevant position preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Google Suite a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate's degree (or equivalent experience) preferred
  • First Aid/CPR training or ability to acquire certification

Responsibilities

  • Performs inspections, maintenance, and basic repairs on the facility's structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other interior and exterior systems.
  • Maintains landscaping and grounds around buildings and facilities
  • Assists with maintenance and operation of post-closure land-fill and methane extraction systems
  • Monitors and maintains the internal work-order system, responding to requests in a timely manner
  • Assists with janitorial needs and general upkeep of common areas
  • Manage and track BAO and Facilities-specific assets
  • Assist with sanctuaries-related projects as needed, including but not limited to trail maintenance and maintenance of trail structures
  • Respond to weather-related emergencies and security related incidents
  • Serve as after-hours on-call staff as needed
  • Address facility-related inquiries and complaints as needed
  • Apply equity lens to work and be accountable for ensuring equitable practices
  • Actively participate in the organization’s Safety Committee as needed
