About The Position

The Facilities Department is currently looking for a skilled generalist, performing at a journey-level in Commercial/Industrial HVAC/R with strong skills in other trades. The Facilities Technician I - HVAC/R is responsible for maintaining the major building systems, including air handling, air conditioning, refrigeration, physical plant, electricity, plumbing, cogeneration, maintenance carpentry, and exhibit work.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of National and California Electrical Codes.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Cal OSHA safety requirements.
  • Ability to install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment and distribution systems from 125 VAC single phase up to 480 VAC 3 phase.
  • Ability to design, fabricate, install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing and pumping systems.
  • Ability to operate, program, troubleshoot, repair, balance, and monitor large industrial HVAC systems.
  • Ability to install, align, balance, troubleshoot, and repair mechanized equipment.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret prints, schematics, P&ID's, and drawings.
  • Ability to fabricate structures and equipment using various materials.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one (1) year specific job experience, completion of a formal training program, or an appropriate contractor's license is preferred.
  • Possess a valid California driver's license.
  • EPA 608 certification is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and labor in HVAC/R, electrical, machinery repair, carpentry, and general fabrication.
  • Assist in the design, material procurement, construction, and daily operation and maintenance of temporary holding facilities and focus tanks.
  • Supervise daily inspections and routine maintenance of all life support equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshoot, isolate, and coordinate repairs of facilities and life support systems.
  • Review and become familiar with the drawings and technical aspects of all systems within the Aquarium.
  • Establish and maintain equipment maintenance records and generate necessary reports.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a preventative maintenance program for all facilities and life support equipment.
  • Assist in the design and construction of life support equipment for changing exhibit areas and future additions.
