About The Position

Penn State is searching for a full time Facilities Systems Technician (Bryce Jordan Center) - Grade 2 - Grade 2 to join the team. Duties include: Analyze building environmental control problems such as, but not limited to, temperature, humidity, static pressure, air flows, noise, and air quality Recommend solutions for implementation Evaluate building automated systems, electrical systems, hvac systems Plan, layout and perform installation Modify or replace with new systems as required Adjust building and room controls to maintain prescribed temperature on heat and reheat systems to include operations requiring heat and reheat in all seasons Operate, schedule and maintain chilled water cooling systems Clean, adjust and maintain equipment such as, but not limited to, chillers, pumps, sumps, valves, traps, piping, heat exchangers Adjust and maintain electronic controls and devices such as fire pump, dry and wet sprinkler systems and fire alarm panel Service, maintain, repair and replace domestic and commercial heating, ventilating systems, and auxiliary components Service, maintain, repair and install dampers, their drives, control mechanisms and sensing devices. Inspect and repair duct work Service, maintain, repair, install and replace domestic and commercial refrigeration, air cooling equipment, chilling units, refrigerated food service equipment and their respective auxiliary components Run gas lines and other lines as required Maintain lighting system through usage of a web based system Install temporary wiring for shows and events Work with design professionals, consultants, promoters, tour agents, event managers, etc. To obtain specific details regarding jobs to be completed Refer problems to supervisor Set up and calibrate building systems as required for events, renovations or customer need Clean, adjust, and maintain large equipment such as heat and chilled water motors and pumps, heat exchangers, steam valves and traps Clean, adjust, inspect, and maintain transformers, switch gears, etc. Direct the work of lower grade employees as required Operate motor vehicles as required

Requirements

  • Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft.
  • Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education.
  • Over 3 years up to and including 5 years of effective experience.
  • A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
