About The Position

A Research Institution located in Rockland County, NY, is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform daily tasks in the Animal Research Facility. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • Must be detailed oriented with the ability to follow direction and provide observations verbally and in writing.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical tasks which involve lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), walking, stooping, standing, pulling, etc.
  • Must demonstrate capacity to operate facility machinery.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate both, verbally and in writing.
  • Must obtain and maintain appropriate medical clearance to work with research animals.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must not be allergic to animals, waste products, or bedding.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Candidates with 2-4-year degrees and or AALAS certification or its equivalent are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performance of daily husbandry for a variety of laboratory species, including environment enrichment.
  • Daily observation of health, monitoring of environmental controls, record keeping and reporting.
  • Performing research activities in coordination with investigators as a member of the research team.
  • Performing veterinary care in coordination with veterinary staff.
  • Operation of cage wash equipment and other critical equipment.
  • Conduct of quality assurance practices in the facility.
  • Collecting, organizing, and preparing soiled caging and accessories for sanitation and or sterilization.
  • Operating machine-washing equipment and or sterilizers, along with managing necessary cage wash chemicals, to appropriately sanitize and or sterilize caging and accessories.
  • Provides quality assurance testing, observations, and documents results to ensure adequate sanitation and or sterilization of cage materials.
  • Preparing fresh caging and related accessories according to requested orders on a scheduled basis by animal facility and research staff.
  • Distributing clean caging and accessories according to requested scheduled orders to facility animal holding rooms.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and maintaining service records on all sanitation equipment.
  • Performing general cleaning of facility by hand and using sanitation equipment.
  • Assisting in bringing animal food, bedding and animal facility related materials from the building loading dock into facility storage and use areas.
