About The Position

Shipping & Receiving Lead Position Profile The Shipping & Receiving Lead oversees daily dock operations, ensuring accurate and timely handling of all inbound and outbound materials. This role provides high‑quality customer support for shipping, receiving, and office services while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Lead coordinates workflow across multiple service areas, manages coverage, and acts as a primary point of contact for internal customers. Job Duties & Responsibilities Operational Leadership Exercise sound judgment in redirecting coverage, coordinating tasks, resolving issues, and escalating operational challenges to management when needed. Ensure safe operation of dock equipment, including pallet jacks and handling of heavy items. Safety & Compliance Maintain a valid Dangerous Goods / CFR‑49 certification or complete required training upon hire. Complete BSC hazardous‑material shipping training and maintain compliance with CFR‑49 regulations. Manage and process flammable or corrosive items delivered in standard packaging, ensuring proper handling and regulatory adherence. Ensure all hazardous‑material shipments meet federal, state, and carrier guidelines. Customer Support & Mail Services Respond to customer inquiries and provide guidance on packaging, labeling, documentation, and shipment preparation. Assist with package lookups and shipment status updates. Deliver incoming packages to campus mailstops daily. Pick up outgoing mail and packages ahead of courier cutoff times. Execute routing of interoffice and campus materials. Inbound & Outbound Processing Receive and process inbound accountable packages using SCLogic . Track and report inbound volumes quarterly. Sort, label, and prepare outbound shipments for carrier pickup. Manage international shipments via FedEx, DHL, and Kuehne, Nagel using ShipIt . Prepare commercial invoices, declarations, and waybills for international exports. Provide customer support for international shipment requirements and documentation. Equipment & Supplies Participate in PIT training provided by BSC. Monitor and restock two DMVI vending machines , ensuring inventory accuracy. Reorder supplies through BSC Staples as needed. Perform weekly key‑operator maintenance on multifunction devices. Qualifications (Education, Experience & Certifications) Experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, or logistics. Knowledge of domestic and international shipping practices. Ability to safely lift and maneuver heavy packages. Strong customer service and problem‑solving skills. Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment with high accuracy. HazMat CFR‑49 certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Clear verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Strong customer service orientation. Solid organizational skills and attention to detail. Versatility and dexterity, including ability to operate hand tools. Ability to follow instructions accurately. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Ability to lift, move, and maneuver packages up to 50 lbs independently (team lift required for heavier items). Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Regular operation of material‑handling equipment (pallet jacks, carts, PIT). Repetitive motions including scanning, loading/unloading, and sorting packages. Work performed on loading docks with exposure to varying temperatures (heat/cold).
