About The Position

The Facilities Specialist I at the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is responsible for performing skilled carpentry and masonry work, including the fabrication and repair of structures and equipment. This role involves maintaining and treating the interior and exterior coatings of various materials, as well as supervising assigned personnel in the upkeep of MWRA facilities. The position requires a combination of technical skills, safety awareness, and the ability to follow detailed instructions to ensure the effective maintenance of facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3 to 5 years of directly related experience in carpentry, masonry, and painting.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience or completion of MWRA supervisory training programs.
  • Basic reading, writing, mathematical, and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of tools, methods, and materials common to carpentry, masonry, and painting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams.
  • Trained in confined space entry, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicles Operators License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Supervisory training certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled carpentry and masonry work to fabricate and repair objects.
  • Maintain and treat interior and exterior coatings of structures and equipment.
  • Install and maintain locks and lock sets.
  • Supervise assigned personnel in maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Plan and accurately lay out work, selecting appropriate materials and tools.
  • Fabricate structures and devices using woodworking and masonry tools.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on various equipment and structures.
  • Set up ladders, staging, and rigging for proper access to job sites.
  • Work from blueprints, sketches, and oral/written directions.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and apply finishes using various techniques.
  • Operate motor vehicles to transport supplies and equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance reporting through CMMS.
  • Assist other trades in their work as required.
