About The Position

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in Richmond is one of the largest comprehensive art museums in the United States, housing over 50,000 works of art spanning 6,000 years. Its holdings include significant collections such as the largest public collection of Fabergé outside of Russia, the finest collection of Art Nouveau outside of Paris, and one of the nation’s finest collections of American art, alongside important collections of Chinese art, English silver, French Impressionism, Postimpressionism, British sporting art, and modern and contemporary art, as well as renowned South Asian, Himalayan, and African art. VMFA is the only US art museum open 365 days a year with free general admission and is a state-supported, privately endowed educational institution dedicated to collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting art to encourage the study of the arts and enrich lives. The Facilities Services team works collaboratively to maintain the appealing appearance of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. They utilize skills gained through thorough training and experience to support the exhibits of artwork and the education of museum patrons. Additionally, they provide support to Enterprise by setting up and taking down areas for Special Events.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Some knowledge of safety practices in using chemicals and cleaning equipment
  • Working skills in the operation of power cleaning equipment such as wet vacuums, floor scrubbers, high-speed floor buffers and vacuum cleaners
  • Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, to lift and move heavy objects, to move furniture, and to set up and take down events
  • Ability to give and receive instructions, and to read and write
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with others
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours
  • Ability to use hands to handle equipment, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Ability to lift or move up to 75 pounds
