The Facilities Security Associate 1 position is under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, Officer In Control & Charge (OIC&C), Director of Facilities Management, or other designated supervisors. The role primarily involves performing restricted patrol and observation duties to protect government property from accidental damage, fire, and theft, as well as monitoring and coordinating the entry and egress of visitors to the Latham Headquarters facility. The position requires considerable knowledge, independence, and professionalism, and may involve supervisory responsibilities when designated. The Facilities Security Associate 1 must adhere to National Guard Bureau (NGB) standards and agency policies, performing various duties including enforcing security regulations, conducting patrols, and responding to emergencies.

  • Enforces building and security regulations, maintains order, and provides information and assistance to agency employees and visitors.
  • Patrols/protects location perimeters and Mission Essential or Vulnerable Areas (MEVA) to detect or deter unauthorized entry.
  • Acts as an initial point of contact for employees, vendors, and visitors.
  • Controls entry to and egress from the joint use headquarters via designated facility control points.
  • Conducts vehicle inspections in support of the installation security program.
  • Reports all situations or conditions threatening health and safety to the appropriate supervisor or local law enforcement.
  • Operates and monitors safety equipment and security devices such as video cameras.
  • Tracks vehicle registration and issues ID cards for agency employees.
  • Prepares written reports of shift activities, including actions taken to report or resolve incidents.
  • Responds to calls for assistance in handling emergency situations.
  • Assists in building evacuation in the event of a fire or bomb threat.
  • May operate a motor vehicle to patrol building exterior and surrounding areas.
  • Participates in periodic drug testing and medical examinations as required.
  • One year of full-time permanent experience as a state Security Services Assistant 1 or similar title.
  • Current registration as a Security Guard with the New York Department of State and completion of the 8-hour pre-assignment training program.
  • Two years of full-time experience performing safety and security duties.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
  • Knowledge of first aid procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and train subordinate staff.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Full-time employment with a salary range from $42,641 to $52,413 annually.
  • Mandatory overtime may be required.
  • Periodic training provided as part of job duties.
