The role will manage work‑order requests, space rearrangements, and small‑scale projects on-site while also providing support to nearby branch locations (within a reasonable driving distance). Some overnight travel may be required. The engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders to develop long-term seating plans, classified‑lab expansions, and to ensure flawless execution of customer- and executive-level events. Prioritization of requests against funding availability and contractual restrictions is a core component of the position. Requirements

  • 5 + years of progressive experience in Facility Management, Project Management, or Construction Management.
  • Building‑Systems Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise with core building systems, including HVAC, electrical power distribution, plumbing, fire‑protection, and general infrastructure utilities.
  • Full‑Lifecycle Project Delivery: Proven track record of managing projects from Statement‑of‑Work (SOW) development, vendor selection, and procurement through to construction, commissioning, and close‑out
  • Budget & Schedule Control: Ability to develop accurate cost estimates, control project budgets (up to $250 K) and maintain schedules that meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, OSHA, ASHRAE) and experience ensuring all work complies with safety and security requirements.
  • Tool Proficiency: Hands‑on experience with project‑management software including MS Project and Computer‑Aided Design/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit) for space‑planning and system layout.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a US DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Facilities Engineering (or a closely related discipline). An advanced degree or relevant professional certifications are a plus.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Strong oral and written communication skills, with a history of collaborating with cross‑functional teams, senior leadership, and external contractors to prioritize work based on funding availability and operational impact.
  • Facility‑Maintenance Expertise: Documented hands‑on experience in the operation, preventive‑maintenance, and reliability improvement of building systems (HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire‑protection, and general infrastructure).
  • Project Planning & Execution: Proven ability to develop detailed project plans, generate SOWs, select and manage vendors, oversee procurement, and drive projects from concept through commissioning and close‑out.
  • Budget Management: Demonstrated skill in creating, tracking, and reconciling multi‑disciplinary functional budgets; ability to align spending with funding constraints and forecast financial impacts.
  • Analytical & Problem‑Solving Skills: Strong quantitative aptitude for cost‑benefit analysis, root‑cause investigations, and data‑driven decision making.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NFPA, OSHA, ASHRAE, DoD security classifications) and ability to ensure compliance throughout project lifecycles.
  • Software Proficiency: Comfortable using CMMS (e.g., Maximo, FM:Systems), project‑management tools, and BIM/ CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Adaptability & Travel: Willingness to travel within a 2‑hour radius of Huntsville, including occasional overnight stays, and to respond flexibly to shifting priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
