About The Position

Lehman College, a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY), is located on a tree-lined 37-acre campus. The Assistant Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities serves as the College's principal officer for the direction, planning and administration of the day-to-day operation of Buildings and Grounds, Campus Planning and Facilities and Property Management. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities, the Director for Facilities Improvement oversees facilities improvement projects. In the absence of the Assistant Vice President, the Director may serve as the College's principal officer for the direction of facilities improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
  • Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in facility management, architecture, engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in construction management of architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems upgrades.
  • Progressively responsible leadership experience and successful track record in construction management of large or complex projects in institutions of higher education.
  • Experience working in a unionized and public sector environment.
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take the initiative to make decisions, resolve problems and work effectively with all levels of staff and constituents, and foster a cooperative/collaborative work environment.
  • Customer service orientation and attention to details are essential along with excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with the Dormitory Authority State of New York and City University of New York capital projects procedures and funding preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage Campus role in CUNY/DASNY managed capital projects, and Lehman funded improvement projects.
  • Develop plans, scopes, estimates and schedules for campus improvements.
  • Direct and oversee improvement project requirements and impacts in collaboration with the capital construction team, vendors, and campus faculty, staff, and students.
  • Represent the College at meetings and in correspondence regarding facilities improvements. Track open questions
  • Conduct weekly site reviews of project progress and prepare periodic updates with photos, annotated drawings and narrative for AVP, administration and construction team.
  • Review consultant and vendor submittals for facilities improvements to ensure they accurately reflect they meet the college's needs. Research alternative materials and equipment.
  • Manage Lehman Campus Planning and Facilities staff working on facilities improvement projects.
  • Provide direction to staff by applying specialized and technical knowledge in the execution of activities related to planning and construction projects.
  • Assists CUNY FPCM with college input/coordination/review for major design and construction improvement projects.
  • Updates AVP for Facilities, Administration and campus community on progress and impacts of Facilities Improvements to college buildings, systems, equipment and grounds.
  • Manages college funded facility improvements.
  • Performs other duties as required.
