About The Position

This position involves performing at a general/basic level in at least one Industrial/Commercial trade craft such as Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, or Electronics/Fire Alarms. The role requires two years of experience for the maintenance and repair of Heavy Commercial building systems and equipment. Key responsibilities include proactively maintaining assigned areas, serving as the primary point of contact for customers regarding Property Services, conducting detailed equipment inspections, performing preventative or corrective maintenance tasks, and assisting in major maintenance repairs. The technician will also be involved in starting up, shutting down, and adjusting equipment according to safety procedures, and supporting shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours projects for an institution operating 24/7. Participation in disaster/hurricane preparedness teams and adherence to all UTMB-required compliance training and safety protocols are also essential.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge in industrial /commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership (i.e., Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms).
  • Two years of general experience working in at least one of the above-mentioned crafts.
  • Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. from the floor to the knuckle.
  • Frequent bending, standing, and walking.
  • Perform at a general/basic level in at least one Industrial/Commercial trade craft (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics /Fire Alarms) with two years of experience for maintenance and repair of Heavy Commercial building systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively maintains all aspects of the assigned area of responsibility and communicates with customers and the supervisor of action taken.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for customers for all Property Services (Physical Plant).
  • Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation. Inform appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies.
  • Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
  • Assists in major maintenance repairs.
  • Performs duties associated with all crafts, as developing skills safely allows.
  • Support area shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours or extended projects as needed for an institution that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness list, i.e., E1A (Ride out team) or E1B (Recovery team).
  • Complete all UTMB-required compliance training.
  • Attend staff training and safety meetings.
  • Identifies and reports safety hazards.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.
