About The Position

This is skilled craft work in the repair and maintenance of the infrastructure and all mechanical systems at JAA facilities. This position is responsible for adjusting, servicing and repairing HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems; to include preventative maintenance. This position will also perform masonry, carpentry, electrical security gate repair, locksmith and painting activities. The Facilities Mechanic I is responsible for operating equipment, such as forklifts, high lifts, and pressure washers. The work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods, and procedures used in repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment which involves the use of specialized equipment and skills and is learned on the job or through specialized training. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by somewhat diversified procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications. The work is performed primarily indoors where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Operates a computer controlling lighting systems, building automated systems, fire alarm and work order system. Uses hand tools associated with the repair and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment. Operates motor vehicles. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied although subject to standard practices and procedures. In order to maintain 24/7 operation, this position requires availability for shift work and a schedule which rotates based on weekend/holiday work requirements.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge and utilization of tools and equipment
  • Able to operate communication devices ( i.e., two-way radio) and to clearly communicate with other JAA employees
  • Working knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Products, work order system, and time and attendance keeping system
  • Capability to inspect facilities and equipment to determine needs and improvements
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Make sound decisions by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution to solve problems
  • High School diploma or equivalent and
  • Three (3) years of work experience in HVAC, plumbing, and/or electrical
  • Must be able to maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge
  • Florida Class E Driver’s License is required and must be maintained

  • Associate-level degree or completion of a technical training program in electronics, mechanical, electrical or technology

Responsibilities

  • Inspects all electrical, mechanical, escalator, and elevator equipment rooms for fluid leaks, unusual noise, stopped-up drains, or malfunctioning equipment
  • Performs pre-scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, lubrication, alignments, and other necessary repairs of all operating equipment
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains terminal building; work includes installing and repairing walls, floor tile, ceiling tiles, and carpeting
  • Diagnoses, services, and repairs restroom equipment, water closets, urinals, water heaters, valves, faucets, and water pipes
  • Inspects, maintains, cleans, and paints all mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and equipment
  • Operates all Maintenance Department power equipment, pressure washers, electric man-lifts, forklifts, electric drain-cleaning equipment, and power tools
  • Documents and inputs data and other information required to maintain all preventative maintenance sheets and service reports
  • Responsible for following proper procedures in the case of fire alarms, power outages, floods, and/or any other emergencies
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
