This is skilled craft work in the repair and maintenance of the infrastructure and all mechanical systems at JAA facilities. This position is responsible for adjusting, servicing and repairing HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems; to include preventative maintenance. This position will also perform masonry, carpentry, electrical security gate repair, locksmith and painting activities. The Facilities Mechanic I is responsible for operating equipment, such as forklifts, high lifts, and pressure washers. The work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods, and procedures used in repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment which involves the use of specialized equipment and skills and is learned on the job or through specialized training. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by somewhat diversified procedures and precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications. The work is performed primarily indoors where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Operates a computer controlling lighting systems, building automated systems, fire alarm and work order system. Uses hand tools associated with the repair and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment. Operates motor vehicles. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied although subject to standard practices and procedures. In order to maintain 24/7 operation, this position requires availability for shift work and a schedule which rotates based on weekend/holiday work requirements.
