About The Position

The Facilities Manager is responsible for leading a comprehensive, multi-shift maintenance department to ensure the maximum reliability, safety, and efficiency of manufacturing equipment and critical utilities (HVAC, WFI, Purified Water, Clean Steam, Compressed Air, Nitrogen) in a cGMP-regulated environment. This role drives proactive maintenance strategies (Preventive Maintenance [PM] and Predictive Maintenance [PdM]), manages the site facilities, and oversees a team of supervisors and technicians, ensuring seamless handovers across a 5-shift, 24/7 operation. Shift Structure: 5-Shift Operation (24/7 Coverage with overlapping or rotating shifts to ensure continuous support). Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (required). Instead of a BA/BS degree, 10+ years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated, regulated setting may be taken into account.
  • Skills: Proficiency with CMMS; ability to analyze equipment history and maintenance data to drive decisions. Solid understanding of AutoCAD or similar software for facility/equipment drawings. Strong leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills across a 24/7 operation. Sophisticated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; expertise in root cause analysis and CAPA management. Project management, planning/scheduling, and budget leadership skills; solid financial acumen. Proficient knowledge of quality systems (cGMP/FDA) and EHS compliance; risk assessment and change control skills.
  • Experience: At least 8 years of maintenance experience within a regulated sector such as Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, or Biotech. At least 5 years in a supervisory/managerial role leading multi-shift maintenance teams. Verified track record in carrying out PM/PdM programs and boosting OEE and reliability metrics.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of cGMP, FDA regulations, and validated utility systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water for injection, purified water, and sterile steam. Familiarity with OSHA/EHS standards and safe work practices for maintenance activities (LOTO, confined space, hot work).

  • Preferred certifications: CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) or CFM (Certified Facility Manager).

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & 5-Shift Management: Supervise and develop the facilities organization across five shifts, ensuring clear communication protocols and effective shift handovers. Manage staffing, training, and qualifications to meet cGMP requirements.
  • Maintenance & Operational Reliability (cGMP): Build and refine PM/PdM programs with the goal of exceeding 98% asset availability. Draw on CMMS data to lessen reactive work, manage root cause analyses (RCAs), and advance corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent repeat occurrences.
  • Facility & Utility Management: Coordinate operation, repair, and servicing of HVAC, WFI, Purified Water, Clean Steam, Compressed Air, and Nitrogen systems. Ensure validated state and environmental control for classified areas.
  • Compliance: Ensure alignment with cGMP, FDA, OSHA, and site quality/EHS systems. Maintain audit-ready facilities and records, and support internal/external audits.
  • Budget & Projects: Build and manage the annual maintenance budget with ≤5% variance or equivalent experience. Plan and complete capital and expense projects (shutdowns, upgrades, equipment installs) using robust change control.
  • Tool Crib & Spares: Maintain targeted inventory levels and control spare parts spend. Ensure availability of critical spares and effective life-cycle management.
  • Planning & Scheduling: Implement coordinated maintenance planning with Production. Prioritize work, manage backlog, eliminate delays from missing information/materials/tools, and improve schedule adherence.
  • Data & Continuous Improvement: Maintain comprehensive equipment work/cost history. Monitor important metrics (e.g., OEE, MTBF/MTTR, PMC) and drive reliability initiatives and maintenance standard work. Facilitate BD Excellence implementation, focusing on Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
