About The Position

Ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of all facilities at Wings of Hope. This role involves performing routine maintenance, repairs, and improvements on buildings, grounds, and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general maintenance and a commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for women and children who have experienced domestic violence.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, HVAC and auto maintenance.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check annually.
  • Must have a clean driving record and be able to maintain it during employment. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to interact with staff and residents respectfully.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
  • This position may require work in various environments, including outdoor spaces, mechanical rooms, and residential areas of the shelter.
  • Standard working hours with occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on building systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and fleet vehicles to ensure they are functioning properly and efficiently.
  • Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair issues related to plumbing, electrical systems, heating/cooling systems, general building maintenance and automobiles. Coordinate with external contractors when necessary.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and codes. Conduct routine safety checks and address any potential hazards promptly.
  • Facility Upkeep: Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the shelter’s common areas, exterior grounds, and mechanical rooms. Perform tasks such as lawncare, landscaping, painting, and minor carpentry.
  • Donation Management: assist with moving furniture and other donations. Transport large objects, assist with client move outs.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to maintenance emergencies promptly, including after-hours when necessary, to ensure the safety and well-being of shelter residents and staff.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Operations Manager and other staff to address facility needs and support the overall mission of the shelter.
