About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Worker positions (I, II, III) at the City of Port St. Lucie involve performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks for city-owned facilities. These roles range from entry-level to advanced skilled positions, requiring varying levels of experience and supervision. The workers are responsible for ensuring the upkeep of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry systems, contributing to the overall functionality and safety of city facilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent diploma.
  • Facilities Maintenance Worker I: Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in construction and maintenance.
  • Facilities Maintenance Worker II: Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience and completion of six (6) industry-related courses.
  • Facilities Maintenance Worker III: Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience and completion of twelve (12) industry-related courses.
  • Valid Class 'E' Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • FDLE-CJIS Certification required prior to hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and maintenance instructions.
  • Knowledge of janitorial procedures and safe use of supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in general building maintenance and repairs including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical tasks.
  • Performs plumbing duties such as repairing and replacing fixtures and unclogging sinks and toilets.
  • Prepares and paints interior and exterior surfaces of buildings.
  • Repairs or replaces window glass, doors, drywall, and flooring.
  • Conducts pressure washing of buildings and sidewalks.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Completes Work Order requests and maintains records electronically.
  • Purchases and picks up materials as needed and oversees contractors.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of shop, equipment, and tools.
  • Inspects grounds and drainage areas for trash and debris and disposes of it.
  • Replaces light bulbs and inspects fire and electrical panels.
  • Assists with relocation of furnishings and sets up for meetings.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance and visual inspections on equipment.
  • Assists in hurricane and storm preparation.
