About The Position

This class is the first and entry level in a four level Maintenance & Operations series. Incumbents perform routine maintenance and/or operational activities in assigned area of responsibility. Depending on assignment, typical duties may include: providing customer service; performing routine maintenance and repair of equipment, infrastructure, grounds, and/or related items; operating motorized vehicles and equipment; inputting data into computerized systems; preparing logs and records; and/or, performing other related activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required. This description is subject to modification as the needs and requirements of the position change. Performs routine maintenance, installation, setup, repair, cleaning, and/or preparation of equipment, facilities/facility spaces, restrooms, grounds, landscape, vehicles, and/or other items related to assigned area. May perform pipe installation, grade maintenance, concrete repair, painting, and irrigation. Performs routine inspections of grounds, facilities, park areas, potential safety hazards, and/or to determine the need for maintenance or to prepare job site for work. Performs basic preventative maintenance to maintain safe and reliable conditions and operations. Assists Facilities Maintenance Foreman with planning and organizing work activities for City facilities. Provides technical guidance for supplies, parts and equipment and services requested of contractors. Assists in resolving facility problems and concerns. Ensures that work orders are completed in a timely manner and maintains records and reports as required. Operates various hand and small power tools and equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and repair operations. Must work rotating on-call assignment. Reviews and monitors supply and material needs; initiates supply requests; loads and delivers materials as required. Prepares and/or reviews various documents and work orders; completes activity logs or reports and maintains records of vehicle Maintenance. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Subject to 24- hour recall: The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime including during emergency situations (defined as any natural or man-made disaster that may or may not necessitate the relocation of City personnel or citizens). In the event of an emergency and/or a required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public including services or duties different from those performed in the normal course and scope of the position.

  • High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, travel and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger or a threatening environment.

Responsibilities
