About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of a biorepository facility, including temperature‑controlled storage areas, mechanical rooms, laboratories, offices, and warehouse spaces. This role performs preventive maintenance, repairs, and facility improvements, with a strong emphasis on construction‑related skills, safety, and documentation.

Requirements

2–3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or a related trade.
Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
Basic computer skills; ability to learn work order or documentation systems.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work overhead for extended periods.
Comfortable working in cold environments (refrigerators, freezers, LN₂ areas) using proper PPE.
Manual dexterity for tools, small components, and detailed repairs.

Nice To Haves

Hands‑on experience with construction or renovation work (e.g., carpentry, framing, drywall, painting, basic electrical or plumbing).
Experience working alongside contractors or vendors.
Knowledge of safety regulations, HAZCOM, and lockout/tagout awareness.
Prior experience supporting audits or compliance inspections.

Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems including doors, walls, ceilings, flooring, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and basic electrical components.
Conduct preventive maintenance on facility infrastructure and support scheduled inspections.
Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues; escalate complex repairs as needed.
Support maintenance of temperature‑controlled environments (CRT, refrigerated, frozen, and LN₂ areas).
Assist with construction and renovation projects, including framing, drywall, painting, patching, minor carpentry, and equipment installation.
Support facility upgrades, space reconfigurations, and rack or storage system installations.
Coordinate with contractors and vendors during construction or repair work, ensuring safety and compliance.
Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, HAZCOM standards, and biorepository SOPs.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and inspection records.
Support audits and inspections by ensuring facilities are clean, organized, and compliant.
Assist with alarm response and incident reporting related to facilities issues.
Perform routine facility inspections and report issues promptly.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical rooms, storage areas, and workspaces.
Support snow removal, groundskeeping, loading dock operations, and waste handling as needed.
Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
