About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is responsible for performing general maintenance repairs and ensuring the integrity and functionality of the zoo's facilities. This role involves a variety of tasks, including preventative maintenance and emergency repairs across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management systems. The technician will work in both indoor and outdoor environments, contributing to exciting projects that enhance the zoo's facilities while supporting the mission of connecting communities with wildlife and wild places.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Florida Driver's license with a clear driving record.
• One year of education or hands-on experience in general repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting.
• Six months' experience in a similar role or vocational/trade school training.
• Ability to read and accurately interpret measurements using a measuring tape.
• Ability to compute fractions and perform basic math calculations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience operating large equipment such as forklifts and cherry pickers.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on various systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management.
• Install, inspect, and repair facility systems to ensure functionality and safety standards.
• Complete projects such as refurbishing animal habitats and splash pads.
• Work collaboratively with other team members to enhance the facilities.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
