Position Summary Incumbents in this job perform various tasks that include preventative maintenance, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, meeting set up, construction, remodeling, and building repairs. This is a labor position with specialized certificates and/or years of experience in facilities maintenance as described in the sections below. Assists licensed and maintenance employees as needed. May be asked to help custodial staff’s work as need arises, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of building maintenance practices, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC support, and painting.
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks such as repairing building components, maintaining mechanical systems, and assisting with construction or renovation projects.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, technical diagrams, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to monitor equipment and identify maintenance needs or safety concerns.
  • Willingness to learn and apply advanced maintenance techniques under the direction of licensed or journey-level professionals.
  • Demonstrated reliability, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of progressive building maintenance experience, demonstrating increasing skill in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC support, or related facility maintenance tasks.
  • Must have at least one of the following specialized training certificates; locksmith, concrete, roofing, carpentry, framing, flooring, heavy equipment operator, CDL class A, or other maintenance related accredited certificate.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Ability to calculate figures, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems and easily solve them as individual and as a team.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, stoop, crawl, stretch, do repetitive motions, and climb ladders. Must be able to bend, twist, stoop, and climb ladders.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • May be asked by supervisor to be lead the crew on certain projects.
  • Works on remodel and construction projects as directed.
  • Patches and paints walls, trims, and doors in the interior and/or exterior of buildings.
  • Installs and repairs doors, demountable furniture, wall systems, counters, floors, framework, and trim.
  • Replace damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
  • Must be able to use hand tools including power tools.
  • Set up meetings, take down, and clean up.
  • Cleans and maintains parking structure including human waste and enduring smells
  • Assists licensed and maintenance employees in inspecting facilities, doing preventative maintenance on equipment, and troubleshooting repairs and issues.
  • Shovels Snow and uses equipment as necessary to maintain a safe environment during winter conditions at city hall, police building, parking structure, and all perimeters of City Complex.
  • Be able to handle bloodborne pathogens properly and safely using PPE and other methods.
  • Detects and eliminates or minimizes safety hazards.
  • Be available for on-call rotation and respond as necessary during evening, weekends and holidays.
  • Assist custodial staff as needed in all their duties.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.
