The City of Albany is looking for a Facilities Maintenance I to join our small but mighty Facilities team. This entry-level role leans heavily into landscaping and grounds care - think mowing, pruning, mulching, and keeping our public facilities looking their best.   • Performs a variety of basic, routine, and semi-skilled maintenance, installation, and repair duties and operates a variety of small equipment supporting building maintenance operations, works independently and in a team situation, and performs related work as required.
  • Performs basic, routine, heavy manual work maintaining grounds and buildings such as landscape care and general grounds cleanup. Includes pruning, raking, fertilizing, weeding, and mulching.
  • Performs regular indoor and outdoor custodial work at the City's buildings and facilities including trash pickup, clean up after others including occasionally human waste, graffiti removal and related custodial duties to maintain facilities such as mopping, waxing, and buffing floors, washing windows, arranging furniture and equipment for events; inspects and maintains custodial equipment and small tools for operating condition.
  • Performs basic semi-skilled building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Performs routine maintenance on power equipment and operates a variety of equipment as needed.
  • Maintains turf by trimming and mowing, edging, and fertilizing, monitors watering of turf and grounds, assists with repairs and maintenance of irrigation components and systems.
  • Represents the City of Albany by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor. Regards everyone, internal and external, as a customer and deliver the best service possible in a respectful and patient manner.
  • Works to create a high-performance work culture by demonstrating a positive attitude and modeling the City's mission, vision, and values. Conducts self with high integrity, proactive in conserving City resources, and seeks and incorporates customer feedback for ongoing performance improvement. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Serves as a member of various City committees as assigned.
  • Assists other staff in the performance of their duties as assigned and may provide training and orientation to new assigned personnel.
  • Maintains regular job attendance and adherence to working hours.
  • Adheres to appropriate attire, grooming, and hygiene standards established for the position.
  • Operates a motor vehicle safely and legally.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
  • If assigned to support recreation facilities, this position tracks and performs regular maintenance needed for all recreation facilities. Ensures they are properly maintained, operating, and cleaned. Keeps records of all work and maintenance completed. If assigned, monitors and maintains pool filtration system including monitoring and adjusting pool water chemistry, checking chemicals, pumps, and other equipment around the pool; fixes pool equipment, including switches, chlorinators, and some pumps; repairs and maintains Splash Pad; reviews maintenance best practices for this equipment and implements appropriate repairs.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent
  • one year of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair of buildings; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license at the time of job placement.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator certification (CPO) within one year of job placement, if assigned.
  • May be required to obtain a Splash Pad Certificate through the National Recreation and Park Association, if assigned.
  • May require completion of chemical and chlorine handlers' courses and pool operators certification, if assigned.
  • The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.
  • May require First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of: equipment, materials, and supplies used in building, landscape, and grounds maintenance; equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; first aid and applicable safety precautions; carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, building specifications, basic construction and carpentry with specific application for commercial buildings; understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and computerized building system management; general grounds keeping/minor landscaping procedures; and administration of maintenance contracts.
  • Skill in: operation of drill; vacuum; wrenches; screwdriver; hammer; power washer; service vehicles; lift truck; and forklift.
  • Ability to: work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule; lift heavy objects; walk and stand for long periods of time; read blueprints and construction diagrams and sketches; perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; use equipment and tools properly and safely; work effectively under stressful conditions and within limited time constraints; operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems; operate computers for data entry and word processing; operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools; operate and repair medium equipment and machinery, such as commercial mowers; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.
  • Experience in landscaping, construction, and/or building maintenance preferred
  • Excellent medical, vision and dental benefit package for the employee and qualified family members with low monthly out-of-pocket cost. Currently, the employee-paid premium is approximately $51 per month for employee-only coverage up to a max of $147 per month for family coverage.
  • City-paid contribution to a VEBA Trust account for out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. Currently, the annual contribution is $1,000 for employee-only and $2,000 for employee plus dependent(s).
  • Paid time off including:
