Position Summary The Journeyman Electrical Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment within a facility or campus environment. This role ensures electrical infrastructure remains safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable codes while supporting daily operations, preventive maintenance, and facility improvement projects. This is a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician License (state-issued).
  • 3–5+ years of electrical experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities environment.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, electrical theory, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Experience with electronic test instruments (multimeters, megohm testers, etc.).
  • Valid Driver's License and own reliable transportation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Building Codes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS/BMS).
  • Knowledge of low-voltage systems, security systems, or fire alarm systems.
  • Familiarity with HVAC electrical systems, VFDs, and motor control centers.
  • CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, motors, controls, panels, and circuits.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues using testing instruments and schematics.
  • Repair or replace defective wiring, fixtures, breakers, transformers, outlets, and switches.
  • Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local regulations, and safety standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of electrical systems to identify potential failures or safety hazards.
  • Maintain electrical equipment through scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Document maintenance activities, test results, and repair actions.
  • Support operation and upkeep of facility systems such as HVAC equipment, generators, fire alarm systems, and building automation systems.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel with multi-trade tasks when necessary.
  • Install new electrical equipment and wiring in support of facility upgrades or renovations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Coordinate with contractors and other departments to ensure project timelines and standards are met.
  • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and PPE requirements.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and take corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with all electrical codes and workplace safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as needed to support projects, operations, and the department.
