About The Position

The Facilities Lead Specialist coordinates, schedules, installs, maintains, repairs, and oversees all mechanical related work at Canton Potsdam Hospital, with travel to Massena and Gouverneur Hospital as needed for special projects. The role involves performing skilled mechanical tasks in maintaining, repairing, and servicing a variety of mechanical equipment. Routine maintenance, service, and repair work are performed independently with minimal direction. The specialist also provides direction and training for other facilities staff as needed to accomplish electrical tasks.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience of mechanical experience required or experience as a Supervisor of Facilities in a Healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, schedule and oversee mechanical related work tasks.
  • Coordinate assistance from contractors to maintain buildings as needed.
  • Perform and coordinate security functions for assigned buildings to maintain safe and secure sites.
  • Perform all facets of mechanical tasks from minor repairs to complex tasks such as pneumatic tube system maintenance and medical gas system maintenance.
  • Layout special mechanical system projects and make necessary upgrades to mechanical distribution equipment/systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for all other trade fields as needed.
  • Operate specialized tools and equipment necessary to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical problems.
  • Read, interpret and utilize plans, schematic drawings, line diagrams, specifications and work orders.
  • Interpret codes such as NFPA and other regulations related to the mechanical field.
  • Utilize advanced mechanical skills and knowledge to train other staff.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance for essential mechanical equipment/systems.
  • Assist department leadership in managing contractor work activities.
  • Direct operations staff when necessary per leadership.
  • Assist leadership in coordinating utility/equipment shutdowns.
  • Ensure that all contractor staff follows codes and health system policies.
  • Monitor and document contractors work activities to ensure specifications are met.
  • Prioritize, schedule, and follow up on all assigned projects.
  • Coordinate and communicate task schedules and projected costs with the customer.
  • Develop task specifications and update preventative/predictive maintenance procedures.
  • Implement risk assessments, ICRA and PICRA safety plans, lockout tag-out, confined space, MSDS and all other regulatory programs.
  • Report all unsafe conditions to immediate supervisor.
  • Document all work performed and all training received.
  • Communicate with all departmental/interdepartmental staff as required.
  • Attend meetings and in-services as scheduled.
  • Keep all logs current.
  • Maintain expense budgets within pre-established guidelines.
  • Requisition supplies and materials by following purchasing and department specific procedures.
  • Keep records of work and make reports.
