The Energy Manager position will be responsible for providing an array of energy engineering and related cost optimization/risk management services that support the development, implementation and validation of energy and infrastructure improvement initiatives for a Crothall multi-site healthcare client in the Baltimore, MD/Washington, DC region.

  • Conduct ASHRAE level 1, 2 and 3 energy audits for managed properties.
  • Accurately baseline energy consumption down to the system/load level using instrumentation and existing automation infrastructure.
  • Understand and exercise knowledge in building automation systems (BAS).
  • Develop and deploy dashboards for management reporting of energy consumption/cost and performance against agreed-upon targets.
  • Develop programs for improvement and perform analysis required to estimate/validate energy savings to pre-determined levels of accuracy.
  • Meet requirements for obtaining available 3rd party efficiency incentives.
  • Create and implement plans for systems retro-commissioning.
  • Identify scopes of work, create budgets, draft RFPs, qualify contractors, and act as a point of contact for projects designed to reduce energy consumption or environmental impact.
  • Employ Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) and Fault Detection Diagnostics (FDD) software tools where appropriate to drive operationally-based energy savings on an ongoing basis.
  • Employ industry-standard Measurement and Verification protocols to accurately understand and account for variables affecting energy consumption.
  • Generate detailed reports to internal/external customers on a regular basis.
  • Maintain project database and library of best practices.
  • Develop and deploy operate training programs to enhance performance and decision-making.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance with all applicable building energy performance standards.
  • Manage and maintain the utility billing system for MedStar Health. Audit invoices and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare annual utility budgets for ten MedStar Health sites using historical data, future plans, and input from commodity market experts.
  • Develop and maintain construction and installation standards.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience with progressive levels of responsibility in the performance of detailed energy audits, retro-commissioning, including scope development, analysis and savings measurement and verification and ongoing reporting.
  • BSME/BSEE (desired) with CEM certification.
  • Strong knowledge of a wide variety of complex heating, cooling, and combined heat/power (CHP) plants and HVAC systems.
  • Well-versed in utilizing multiple vendor Building Management System platforms to collect data for analysis, and implementing changes to operating sequences.
  • Expertise in utilizing industry standard tools for calculation of baseline operating conditions and estimation of savings associated with a wide array of energy efficiency strategies.
  • Proficient in the use of energy accounting software to track ongoing energy use and accurately account for external variables and building changes to prove energy savings.
  • Familiarity with applicable design standards for healthcare building systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of client's organization.
