Facilities Management is responsible for the overall physical development and maintenance of the laboratory. The mission of the department is to provide superior logistics, advanced workplaces, and resilient infrastructure to enable optimal Laboratory operations. Facilities personnel are responsible for the overall development and maintenance of the JPL physical property which resides on 167 acres, with 2.5 million square feet of offices and laboratories in 128 buildings, housing over 6000 people. The mission of the division is to provide a safe environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge in support of JPL's projects and missions. In this role, you will be a member of the Facilities Engineering Section and will report to the Supervisor of the Facilities Engineering and Design Group.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a BA degree in Electrical Engineering with 6 years of related work experience in Facilities Design/Construction projects of moderate complexity, demonstrating originality, ingenuity, and knowledge of building codes and industry best practices.
  • Experience in performing facilities engineering, working under general direction for a variety of diverse full-service projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal, mediating, and project management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and make appropriate decisions about prioritizing assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to principles of LEED and Building Commissioning.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD, competence with REVIT, SKM, and Microsoft applications.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local codes.
  • Professional license or registration.

Nice To Haves

  • MA/MS degree in Electrical Engineering with 4 years of related experience.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with high voltage systems as well as Controls equipment and Controls interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct building system assessments and inspections to evaluate conditions, operations, and maintenance requirements of building electrical systems.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to operations and maintenance personnel for issues on electrical systems. Support faculty, consultants, and field electricians, as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation on electrical system configurations and capacities.
  • Design electrical systems to comply with various project scopes of work in accordance with applicable standards and regulations including the California Electrical Code and California Energy Code (TITLE 24).
  • Prepare bridging documents/basis of design for design-build projects, including electrical design specifications, analyses, and recommendations for presentation and approval.
  • Review electrical system designs developed by project design teams, as well as related construction drawings and submittals for accuracy, compliance with campus standards and design guidelines, quality, and completeness.
  • Ensure that the installation of electrical systems for all construction and renovation projects is in compliance with applicable codes and agency regulations.
  • Design electrical power and lighting distribution drawings, single line diagrams, schematics, interconnection diagrams, and other electrical drawings.
  • Generate detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and complete system-level electrical Bill of Materials, as required.
  • Consult with "clients" to determine system requirements and provide requested services while meeting safety, code, and budgetary requirements.
  • Verify and ensure that new electrical building systems are compatible with existing building infrastructure.
  • Provide analysis and oversight to assure continuous improvement in energy conservation.
  • Participate in the selection and work with consulting electrical engineers as required.
  • Maintain files/records/operational data related to the assigned project.
  • Prepare activity progress reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
