About The Position

The Facilities Crane Mechanical Engineer position at Boeing is a mid-level or senior role focused on the design, development, procurement, and maintenance of overhead crane systems. This role is integral to ensuring the safety and reliability of facilities systems and equipment, collaborating with various engineering and operations teams to enhance crane systems and develop long-term sustainability plans. The position is based in Auburn, Washington, with occasional travel to other Boeing sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering role.
  • 3+ years of experience maintaining mechanical cranes and hoisting systems including cables, chain sheaves and hooks.
  • Experience reading & understanding engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Ability to perform work at heights up to 50 feet above ground level with appropriate safety gear.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in safety processes related to crane systems.
  • Experience applying Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), or similar problem/analysis/resolution processes to engineering development & manufacturing/production efforts.
  • Experience working with industrial automation systems for cranes (i.e., reading standard PLC programming languages such as ladder logic, function block diagrams & statement lists).
  • Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering guidance in the design, development, procurement, modification, and maintenance of overhead crane and hoisting systems.
  • Partner and collaborate closely with other engineering, maintenance, operations, and project management teams.
  • Develop conceptual designs, rough cost estimates, and preliminary project schedules to meet the needs of customers, engineering partners, facility standards, outside consultants, and regulatory/government agencies.
  • Review, approve, and verify crane mechanical system designs & installs to ensure compliance with requirements & regulations.
  • Support accuracy of system documentation and drawing libraries through internal and external projects.
  • Create CAD drawings and documentation aligned to facility standards; review contractor control drawing redline submittals after construction is complete; verify redlines are incorporated into as-built drawings.
  • Provide input to strategic, short term, and long term infrastructure planning, continuously recommending improvements.
  • Work with both internal & external partners to identify and assess alternatives and impacts; use proactive, forward-thinking approaches to daily work.
  • Determine causes of asset failures or reduction of capability using reliability tools & methods (e.g., lifecycle analysis, condition-based maintenance, mean time between failures, fault tree analysis, etc.).
  • Demonstrate daily commitment to safety and operational excellence.
