Boeing's Enterprise Services organization is currently looking for a Facilities Controls Engineer to join our Global Real Estate & Facilities (GREF) team located in North Charleston, South Carolina. Our team is hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Experienced and Senior Engineer. This role primarily supports the Boeing South Carolina site's facilities operations, equipment maintenance, reliability engineering, and future site development. This role will partially support Ridley Park, PA; Huntsville, AL and Heath, OH sites with up to 15% travel. In this role, you will support enhancements to site infrastructure, with emphasis on Building Automation Systems, industrial environmental controls and lighting controls. You will have the opportunity to work with an exceptional facilities operation, contribute to the enterprise GREF Engineering team, and collaborate with colleagues from various technical backgrounds. This position installs, analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves building automation system and device issues that are building-wide in scope and configures the system and devices to optimize performance in that building. Work involves programming, configuring, and testing controllers and sensors; programming and installing graphics and sequence of operations; and downloading, testing, and communicating firmware updates. Work includes commissioning building-wide building automation systems, maintaining documentation on changes and enhancements, and developing standard and ad hoc reports to monitor system performance. Work may involve monitoring, testing, and adjusting pneumatic controls; and providing building automation user and software training to trades and maintenance employees.

  • Administrates and troubleshoots Building Automation Systems including physical components, servers, software, and network communications.
  • Analyzes building environmental control problems such as temperature, humidity, static pressure, air flow, noise, and air quality, and recommends solutions for implementation.
  • Modifies, configures, programs, and tests controllers and sensors to ensure functionality within a larger building automation system network.
  • Designs, modifies, calibrates, and programs features such as temperature, humidity, pressure, time, and on/off set points.
  • Troubleshoots system and equipment failures; determines root cause; and develops work-arounds and corrective actions.
  • Develops plans for system and equipment improvements.
  • Specifies system and equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Integrates with internal and business customers.
  • Manages special projects related to Building Automation Systems.
  • Supports new asset commissioning.
  • Identifies automation or technology recommendations and system integration for infrastructure equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements.
  • Translates customer requirements into design options with documents and estimates.
  • Assists in the creation of contract scopes.
  • May be required to perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 5+ years of experience with building electrical and/or mechanical systems.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a facilities engineering role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with one or more of the following Building Automation Systems: Trane, Honeywell and/or Johnson Controls Metasys.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting building environmental controls.
  • Ability to travel 15%.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Robotics Engineering.
  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 9+ years of experience maintaining facilities equipment.
  • 5+ years of experience with PLC (programmable logic control) hardware.
  • 5+ years of experience with equipment reliability or machine troubleshooting.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting crane systems.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting building lighting controls.
  • 5+ years of experience modifying computer programs.
