Kha'p'o Community School (KCS) is looking for a Family and Child Education (FACE) Program Parent Educator who is excited to provide excellent and culturally relevant educational opportunities for pre-natal to 5-year-old Native American children. Key duties include conducting personal visits with families on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to provide research-based information on how children grow and develop so that parents can foster learning and nurture development. Candidates for this position are highly organized, are comfortable working with students and parents in a home environment and embody KCS core values of Respect, Compassion, Responsibility, Perseverance, Community, and Partnerships. KCS is a dual language (Tewa/English) Tribally Controlled Grant school serving Santa Clara Pueblo. We currently serve approximately 125 families, prenatal through 6th grade, and adult learners. KCS is a school grounded in providing students with rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that are culturally centered on Tewa language proficiency and interactive, hands-on learning. We support students in their physical and emotional growth as well, valuing student identity and promoting and modeling high self-esteem and confidence. The FACE Parent Educator is supervised by the Assistant Director of Instruction who oversees the FACE Program at KCS. This position works closely with the FACE Program team to recruit families, schedule home visits, and deliver programming. Programming includes FACE Family Circles activities in the evenings and providing support for families to provide safe and effective learning environments within the home. The Parent Educator collaborates with the Tewa Team and Instructional staff to gain knowledge on implementation of Tewa language curriculum and project-based learning. Applicants for this position must have at a minimum Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or in a related field. Equivalent experience or education will be considered in lieu of this degree. A valid driver's license is required. Applicants with NM Early Childhood Education or Elementary Teaching Licensure are preferred. Knowledge of Pueblo customs and the Tewa language are not required but preferred. KCS follows the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472) which promotes filling vacancies with qualified Indian candidates - consideration of non-Indian applicants will be made in the absence of qualified Indian candidates. Applicants will be required to pass a comprehensive background check and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to work at KCS.
