About The Position

Lensing Building Specialties, a leading employer in the Tri-State for the last 75 years, knows how to have fun, get the job done, and treat our people right. Founded in 1948, we are a 3rd generation, family-owned specialty distributor of Residential and commercial building products and services. Our focus includes windows, doors, cabinets, siding, garage doors, hardware, security, access control, glazing, overhead doors and dock equipment. The Fabricator is responsible for the precise cutting, forming, welding, and assembly of hollow metal doors, frames, and related products. This role requires the ability to read and interpret shop drawings and specifications, operate fabrication equipment, and produce high-quality work that meets company and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with sheet metal and steel products in a manufacturing or construction environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; trade or technical training in metal fabrication or welding a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Capable of standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Safety-focused and reliable with consistent attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, fabrication sheets and technical drawings.
  • Experience operating fabrication tools such as brake presses, shears, punch presses, and welders.
  • Knowledge of MIG welding and basic metal finishing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate hollow metal doors, frames, sidelights, borrowed lites, and custom assemblies according to drawings, specifications, and order details.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication sheets, and work orders.
  • Measure, cut, punch, notch, and form metal components using shears, presses, brakes, and other fabrication tools.
  • Fit and weld components to create complete assemblies, ensuring proper alignment and tolerances.
  • Grind, sand, and finish welded parts for smooth, paint-ready surfaces.
  • Inspect completed items for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications.
  • Tag, package, and prepare finished products for shipping or installation.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and safe condition.
  • Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, production leads, and supervisors to meet daily production goals.
  • Prioritize quality of finished products while completing shop orders in a timely manner.
