A typical day for a Fabrication Weld Technician III will include various responsibilities across project management, robotic and automation tasks, and fabrication technician duties. The role involves supporting the group leader in prototype fabrication project management and research activities, which includes managing schedules, manpower, and budgets. Additionally, the technician will support the research and development of new material joining technology related to the future body in white construction and assist in major fixed asset purchases for the weld group, including planning, budgeting, justification, and installation. As a Robotic / Automation Technician, the individual will create, modify, and execute robot programs with various types of material joining technologies. This includes performing virtual robot feasibility studies and offline programming for existing and new material joining technologies, developing robot programs with advanced techniques, and designing error-proof and recovery methods. The technician will also troubleshoot complex programming, electrical, and mechanical issues and perform major preventative maintenance on robot cells. In the role of Fabrication Technician, the technician will support the planning of prototype fabrication projects and lead a team of contingent associates in the fabrication of body in white and assemblies. Responsibilities include verifying the correct assembly of weld fixtures, analyzing CMM data, and adjusting tooling to improve accuracy. The technician will also review 3D data and prints to detect any physical manufacturability issues, document design concerns, and ensure accurate location of all material joining applications while performing quality checks. Safety guidelines must always be followed, and the technician will be responsible for organizing and maintaining the inventory of assigned tools and supplies within the weld group. The role may also require supporting other fabrication groups or HDMA production facilities as needed.
