Fabrication involves laying out, cutting, fitting, measuring and welding metals to create the desired shape or object. This is highly detailed work and requires the Welder Fabricator to be knowledgeable of many techniques and tools.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • 2 years of related experience and/or training;
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of specific welding processes, such as TIG, MIG and ARC.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to use heavy machinery, such as forklifts and cranes.
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices
  • Ability to use variety of tools and equipment
  • Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude

  • The ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including over time as needed.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration.

Responsibilities

  • Welder Fabricators must be able to read and interpret blueprints and engineering plans. The Welder Fabricator will use the blueprints along with other data, such as work plans, to develop and design their welding projects.
  • Fabrication involves laying out, cutting, fitting, measuring and welding metals to create the desired shape or object. This is highly detailed work and requires the Welder Fabricator to be knowledgeable of many techniques and tools.
  • A Welder Fabricator must constantly inspect and test welds and equipment. Welds are checked for durability as well as meeting specified standards and equipment must be examined to determine if repairs or new equipment is needed.
  • File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly
  • Select the appropriate metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
