Responsible for the direct supervision of activities associated with welder operations. Also responsible for safe performance of welding activities in accordance with procedures and weld specifications and for optimizing productivity. Brief welding team leaders and assign the welders in different projects according to their qualifications, plan supervise and execute all welding activities. Handles the process and resolution of grievances, performance evaluations, and application of discipline. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares labor, material, daily work orders, cost sheets, equipment status reports, employee status reports, weekly summary reports, and time sheets. Participates in budget preparation and administration of equipment maintenance, coordinating purchasing and documentation and monitoring expenditures. Supervision of welders and welder helpers engaged in heating, welding and cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metal in shop and field fabrication maintenance and repair work. May personally inspect, approve, and/or reject welds. Assigning work in the form of sketches and blueprints and gives verbal and written instruction and technical advice as required. Receives assignments from maintenance, repair and craft supervisory personnel in oral and written from. The supervisor is distinguished from lead welders in that they have full range supervisory activities including application of discipline, process and resolution of grievances, evaluation of performance, and approval of time off requests. Functioning as a crew leader, or as a senior worker performing the most complex welding assignments. Demonstrating mechanical aptitude along with math and problem solving skills. Devising layout and design of projects Lays out, positions, aligns, or otherwise sets pieces in place preparatory to welding and measures for conformance specifications. Inspecting and testing welded joints for defects, proper welding fundamentals, and conformance to layout, blueprint, and work order specifications. Reading and understanding AWS specifications. Training and directing lower personnel in the operation and use of welding equipment and related tasks. Regularly handles the most complex and difficult assignments in the work area, resolves problems and answers questions for other employees. Performing diagnosis and repair on equipment and/or structure for problems in accordance with company and industry standards and safety procedures. Performing a variety of welding techniques including GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) FAW (Flux- Core Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) Performing maintenance repair, fabricating, welding, remodeling and construction on a variety of metal products from samples and sketches. Ability to read and independently work from plans, sketches, diagrams and blueprints. Performing manual forging, shaping, straightening, sizing, dressing, and heat treating of metal products, etc. Operating numerous air, gas, and electric tools to join, surface, fabricate or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials according to specifications. Maintaining and inspect equipment and work area ensuring clean, safe and hazard free work environment and equipment in proper working condition. Estimating time and material needed for each project. Keeping proper record of materials used and hours worked for billing purposes and maintaining stock of necessary supplies. Performing related duties as assigned.
