MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT As Fabrication Shop Manager, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of modernizing US Navy ships and submarines. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Fabrication Shop Manager to lead our fabrication shop and manage a team of 100 full-time employees (FTEs). The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in CNC machining, welding, painting, sheet metal work, production fabrication, and assembly. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess strong financial acumen to track program data, outstanding managerial capabilities to collaborate with five Program Managers, and the vision to support business development, drive growth, and attract new customers. This role will focus on fostering customer relationships, enhancing production capabilities, and ensuring the shop floor operates at full capacity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a managerial role within a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to business development efforts, including fostering customer relationships and driving operational growth.
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience with CNC machining, welding, painting, sheet metal work, production fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Demonstrated financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Proven track record of effectively managing a large team and coordinating with multiple Program Managers.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing software and ERP systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the fabrication shop, ensuring that all production goals and quality standards are met.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of skilled tradespeople and support staff.
  • Coordinate and prioritize workloads to optimize shop floor capacity and efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with five Program Managers to align production schedules with project timelines.
  • Utilize your technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to CNC machining, welding, painting, sheet metal work, and assembly.
  • Support business development initiatives by contributing to customer acquisition efforts, expanding the client base, and assisting with project scoping.
  • Proactively develop strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and strengthen relationships with existing customers.
  • Monitor and maintain the performance of fabrication equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Track financial data for various programs, including budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
  • Continuously seek improvements in productivity, efficiency, and quality through lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with all levels of the organization, including senior management, to report on production status, challenges, and achievements.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
