What to Expect As a Fabrication Inspector you will safely audit and inspect in-process piece part and fabrication/welding assemblies to assure adherence to quality, process and engineering standards according to company drawings, specifications and workmanship standards.THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT ROLE Relevant experiences gained in a personal or professional setting must be described in application as they relate to the minimum requirements (welding for instance). Pay Rate and Schedule: The position includes an extension wage of $31.18/hour (this total includes shift differential) and a comprehensive day-one benefit program, generous time off, and retirement benefits! Openings available on 2nd shift: Monday – Friday, 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. Overtime opportunities may be available on a voluntary basis based on business needs and with leader prior authorization. What You Can Expect in Detail: As a Fabricator Inspector you will be responsible for putting safety first with a goal to prevent all injuries, occupational illnesses and safety incidents. You will inspect and measure items for fit, alignment, dimensional accuracy, and functional operations according to design records, engineering standards, military standards and other non-print requirements in all fabrication, purchased and internally manufactured product and updates metrics as required. You will resolve the quality defect and improve the product, while performing audits fabrication and 1st operations products and processes. Compiles, issues and communicates Nonconforming Rejections (NCR) to appropriate areas on identified fabrication nonconformance. Identify items for rejection and records test results. Respond and communicate issues. Work with assembly and fabrication teams to identify and solve problems. Essential communications when working with support groups including Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Development Engineering, Inspection and others regarding inspection methods and results, along with working with fabrication Manufacturing and Quality teams to install in-process checks in the Manufacturing Process. This position may operate some CMM instruments and devices related to fabrication. Coordinate and prioritize work to meet production schedules. Take initiative to identify, document, communicate and correct problems related to fabrication, report discrepancies and recommend solutions. Electronically and manually maintain documentation for production. Support team People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) initiatives and daily activities. Work Environment & Physical Requirements: A component of our shop is welding, there may be exposure to welding fumes. Noise levels of 85db or greater. You could operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists. You must be able to lift up to 35lbs frequently. You may work at work at multiple heights. Climb on equipment, machines, ladders, man lifts and various step stools. In this role you may stand for a minimum of 8 hour shifts with minimal breaks. Our production teams work in environment with frequently changing temperatures. Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices. You will kneel, squat, and crawl on knees and can expect to work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting and forward head and rotation of neck and will work in tight spaces. You will use fine motor skills and will have tasks that require repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling rotating. In most production positions you will have frequent use of hand tools including welder, grinder, air tools, pliers, reamers, etc. On site it is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed/metatarsal foot gear, and protective welding clothing and equipment including jackets, chaps, helmet, grinding shield, etc.

Requirements

  • Resume or complete work history required
  • Three years cumulative heavy welding experience including 1 years Caterpillar Paving Products experience.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) and IE Specs
  • Ability to read fabrication blueprints/engineering drawings and weld symbols

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years Quality Assurance experience in fabrication environments preferred.
  • Work experience as part of a team desired.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficient use inspection and weld inspection hand tools, gauge blocks and other setup tools.
  • High level of detail orientation.
  • Strong trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills with emphasis on windows, SAP, and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of fabrication operations, weld procedures, processes and fixturing required. (including machining, press break, and bend allowances)
