As a Senior Fab Shop Manufacturing Engineer at BAE Systems, you will use yours skills to develop and improve manufacturing/machining processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. You will create and modify CNC programs, as well as design fixtures and tooling for operations, manufacturing processes and material handling. You will complete calculations and design for new equipment and process improvement, as well as create and maintain technical drawings for processes, tooling, and fixtures to support manufacturing operations. This is a first shift position on a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off! Maintains communication with Shop Value Stream Leader (VSL) and Shop Lead to ensure efficiency of all fabrication processes and resolve all issues pertaining to them. Coordinate with VSL or Lead, provide support to all teams, and maintain quality of all work processes in systems. Provide day-to-day technical support to fab shop personnel. When needed, supports the shop floor personnel to set up and operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Analyze current shop practices and recommend improvements. Troubleshoots and analyzes problems with production and assembly. Analyzes root causes for all fabrication issues. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications: determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup: uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments: makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds: measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining: fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. Review of Engineering design drawings for manufacturability and development of alternative approaches to ease the manufacturing process and reduce cost. Support Engineering design and prototyping efforts, prepare detail tooling drawings using Cad software and develop work plan instructions for all fabrication processes. Design jigs and fixtures as required. Support the development of estimates for fab shop efforts. Participate in Basis of Estimate (BOE) creation.
