About The Position

The Assistant Director at Norfolk State University plays a crucial role in developing and managing study abroad programs. This position involves establishing systems for outreach, admissions, and advising, ensuring compliance and effectiveness of study abroad policies, and providing comprehensive support to students throughout their global learning experiences. The Assistant Director collaborates with faculty and program directors to enhance program quality and student engagement, while also representing the Global Learning and International Programs (GLIP) to various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Office Suites.
  • Ability to learn TerraDotta and web content management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good understanding of current issues in international education.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high volume office setting.
  • Professional, collaborative, and collegial work style.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with liberal arts college curricula.
  • Experience using TerraDotta.
  • Experience supporting Title III Grants.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Cross-cultural experience such as living, working, or studying abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and integrate systems for study abroad outreach, admissions, and advising.
  • Evaluate study abroad materials, policies, and procedures annually for effectiveness and compliance.
  • Develop creative ways to prepare and support students for global experiences.
  • Collaborate with Business Operations Specialists for seamless registration and billing for students.
  • Work closely with NSU Faculty-Led Program Directors and Exchange Partners to develop global learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate with faculty and program directors to manage all aspects of study abroad programs.
  • Assess programs to ensure they meet global learning outcomes and financial targets.
  • Provide comprehensive study abroad information to students.
  • Organize information sessions and conduct outreach to promote global learning opportunities.
  • Attend student fairs and events on campus to promote programs.
  • Evaluate and recommend applicants for admission to study abroad programs.
  • Organize pre-departure and re-entry meetings for students.
  • Resolve student issues during all phases of participation in study abroad programs.
  • Participate in health, safety, and risk management support for students.
  • Represent GLIP to internal and external constituents for program development opportunities.
  • Contribute to planning and development of new global experiences and fundraising initiatives.
