About The Position

Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track position for an Open Rank Professor of Social Work in The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work. Candidates are required to possess an MSW from a CSWE accredited Social Work Program and to have earned a terminal degree (PhD, DSW) in social work or a related field. The candidate selected is expected to demonstrate and engage in scholarship; provide evidence or potential for exemplary teaching (3+3 teaching load); serve as a professional advisor; provide dissertation support to doctoral students, and engage in service at the university, community, regional, and national levels. We are open to candidates that can teach various courses across academic programs. This is a full-time, on-site, tenure-track position (nine-month) beginning January or August 2026. Requirements

• MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program.
• DSW or PhD in Social Work or PhD in a related field.
• Teaching experience and/or evidence of research and scholarly activity.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in teaching Social Work courses at undergraduate or graduate level, especially in organizational leadership/macro practice and/or social work education.
• Experience in grantsmanship and research that is commensurate with employment at the rank of assistant/associate/full professor.
• Experience in online teaching, preferably using Blackboard Ultra or other LMS.
• Demonstrate multicultural competence including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations.
• Leadership in doctoral education and mentoring doctoral students.
