Position Summary Responsible for operation of the Plastic Extrusion process and all associated equipment through execution of startup, operating and shut down procedures, analyzing data from the process, adjusting the process when necessary, and participating in troubleshooting efforts with Maintenance, Manufacturing and Engineering personnel. Also assists in coordinating the activities of the Extrusion department, including program set up, efficiencies, reporting, data analysis and effective working relationship to improve operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • General knowledge of equipment process & maintenance.
  • Plastic material processing knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Requires up to 12 hours of standing/walking daily.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop/twist, crouch/squat, and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Requires repetitive use of arm, wrist, and hand.
  • Must be able to work near/with machinery and hand tools.
  • Moderate/heavy exposure to heat and excessive noise.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including hearing protection, safety glasses and steel/composite toe shoes.
  • Annual hearing tests are required.
  • Some overtime and occasional weekends required.

Responsibilities

  • Foster, support and lead all safety directives. Observes plant safety rules. Helps to identify and eliminate any safety hazard or concern. Assists in monitoring of quality of work output and maintenance procedures and 5S program.
  • Confer with supervisor to assist and coordinate operations and activities within the Extrusion department, including Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet Quality and Production goals.
  • Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions. Knowledge of plastic materials and basic manufacturing principles is necessary.
  • Ability to use knowledge of plastic processing, basic manufacturing principles and common sense to identify problems, solve issues and develop paths for process and quality improvements.
  • Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards, including Extrusion process control setup and target efficiencies.
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Compile daily production reports.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement environment.
  • Assists in conducting operations so as to meet established cost standards for use of materials, supplies and equipment. Follows instructions in the most efficient use of tools, machines and materials.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly working area and assists other departments in the cleanliness and organization of working areas when projects overlap other department areas.
  • Responsible for reporting any problems or concerns to their direct Supervisor. To maintain good working relations with all other employees. Strives to have no conflicts with other department employees.
  • Encouraged to bring any ideas to light for possible usage in factory functions.
