About The Position

The position involves setting up and operating a plastic extruder along with all support equipment, while coordinating the activities of production workers in the Extrusion area. The role includes inspecting products for conformance to specifications, studying production schedules, assisting in accident investigations, interpreting specifications and blueprints, establishing work procedures, recommending improvements, analyzing work problems, maintaining production records, and conferring with other leads and supervisors. The individual will also operate an extruder daily, assist in training new associates, and ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Eight to ten years of extrusion experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to operate PC utilizing the ERP system or comparable system.
  • Ability to set-up, operate and troubleshoot all machinery and support equipment within the extrusion department.
  • Ability to identify when and how to use various TQM tools and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Assists in accident investigations and prepares a timely report.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains time and production records (maintenance reports, work performance logs, press reports, etc.).
  • Performs work center management tasks.
  • Confers with other Extrusion Leads and Shift Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Operates an extruder daily.
  • Assists with training of new associates.
  • Performs position in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with regulatory requirements as well as company policies and procedures.
