About The Position

The Extruder Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting extrusion lines to ensure consistent product quality and production efficiency. This role may include performing minor repairs and actively supporting continuous improvement (CI) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions in English
  • Manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs multiple times per day.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on elevated surfaces.
  • Ability to become certified in forklift operation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment in compliance with Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) and all plant safety protocols.
  • Actively participate in Zero Harm and Hardie’s Management Operating System (HMOS).
  • Adhere to all PPE requirements, including eye protection, hearing protection, work boots (steel-toed, ankle-high), gloves etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Operate forklifts in accordance with training to support material supply for the production line.
  • Follow guidelines related to dress code (e.g., no loose clothing, jewelry, or shorts).
  • Perform in-process part inspections and collaborate with Quality Control to contain non-conforming products.
  • Make necessary adjustments to ensure products meet specification requirements.
  • Accurately and promptly enter production and quality metrics.
  • Retrieve and stage materials for line setup.
  • Set up multiple dies and calibrators as required
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble extrusion tooling and calibrators.
  • Operate a minimum of two production lines, including loading, assembly, packaging, and quality checks.
  • Change haul-off pads and monitor melt appearance in vents, adjusting temperatures as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical issues on production lines.
  • Execute equipment changeovers and line start-up/shutdown procedures per training and process card.
  • Maintain accurate production logs and daily reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with operators across shifts.
  • Meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Support maintenance personnel during repair activities when needed.
  • Provide backup support to Production Assistants.
  • Deliver on-the-job training to new hires.
