About The Position

The Middle School Coach position at Rapid City Area Schools is designed to provide a wholesome educational experience through athletic competition for 7th grade boys basketball. The role emphasizes teaching the fundamentals of the sport, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play, while also developing a systematic training program that supports the overall growth of the athletic program.

Requirements

• Meet certification requirements as established by the South Dakota High School Activities Association.
• Teaching and coaching experience preferred.
• Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries certification or equivalent.
• Ability to work unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Issue equipment and supervise the students' care of it, check in and inventory equipment at the end of the season.
• Ensure every participant has purchased the necessary insurance or signed the insurance waiver.
• Develop skills, strategies, and styles of play consistent with the program's scope and sequence.
• Prepare a daily practice schedule and continuously improve coaching techniques.
• Dress appropriately for coaching duties at practice and game time.
• Show leadership in proper conduct during practice and game time.
• Monitor and comply with federal, state, and district policies and procedures.
• Inform team members of training regulations, code of conduct, and other pertinent information.
• Administer first aid to an injured player.
• Recognize responsibilities to the team, school, and fellow coaches, and cooperate harmoniously with them.
• Communicate between officials and coaches in a gentlemanly manner.
• Be loyal and supportive of all activity programs.
• Follow the work schedule determined by the immediate supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Responsible for energy conservation practices throughout the district.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
