The Extra Hand/ Laborer is a full-time position with the potential to work 12 hours shifts. The Valdosta Mill is a 24-hour operation; candidates must be able to work any assigned rotating shifts and be available on short notice of overtime. Assist department-wide where needed with general utility and physical labor functions. Assistance may include but not limited to, utility services including moving, spotting and operating equipment, clean up, wash up, unplugging chutes, turning valves and making storeroom supply runs, etc. Position Requirements PCA's paper mills operate on a continuous basis - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Candidates for this position must be able to occasionally work long hours and all shifts. During annual outages - typically two (2) times per year for a duration of seven (7) consecutive days - and during unscheduled shutdowns, all employees are scheduled to work 12-hour shifts. Basic Qualifications: Position requires minimum age 18 High School diploma or G.E.D Work any assigned rotating shifts including weekends, holidays and overtime At least two years of full or part-time work in the last four years Ability to read, write and speak in English Satisfactory completion of background check and drug screen. Preferred Qualifications: Pulp & Paper industry experience preferred. At least 2-5 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, equipment or process operations and equivalent skills in an industrial manufacturing environment. The successful candidate must possess the following Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to be able to work well under pressure and within time constraints, multi-task, and build sound relationships with both internal and external customers Ability to exhibit excellent communication, analytical, organizational and computer skills. Capable of independently making sound decisions through creative problem-solving, ambiguity and change Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously Ability to read and understand technical correspondence, memos, instructions, and reports. Ability to trade off, or substitute for the Extra Hand and/or entry-level positions throughout the mill. Tests and Board Interview: Those selected to go through the PCA hiring process will be asked to take a series of five written tests and take part in a structured board interview. The five written tests are all timed and involve: Basic mechanical principles Basic arithmetic skills The ability to visualize three-dimensional figures The ability to compare numbers or patterns quickly and accurately Basic verbal ability The interview will be conducted by a four-person board and involves a review of each candidate: Work history Achievements and accomplishments Knowledge and skill acquisition Interpersonal skills and helpfulness Task-related likes and dislikes Physical demands experienced in previous jobs
