The externship opportunity at Upstate Caring Partners is designed for undergraduate students interested in exploring careers in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This program provides hands-on experience in various settings, including school-age, adult, and preschool programs, and aims to enhance professional skills and knowledge in applied behavior analysis, psychology, social work, medicine, teaching, and therapy.

  • Gain exposure to professional skills and evidence-based practices for education and treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Participate in weekly supervision sessions with assigned mentors to process experiences and receive feedback.
  • Develop measurable goals and timelines in collaboration with supervisors.
  • Engage in research activities and present findings at the end of the externship.
  • Participate in a weekly career exploration group to reflect on experiences and network with professionals.
  • Undergraduate student actively pursuing a bachelor's degree.
  • Availability for a 35-hour work week during the externship period from 05/19/25 to 08/15/25.
  • Submission of application, transcript, references, and cover letter by 02/21/25.
  • Completion of agency background clearance.
  • Hands-on experience in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
