About The Position

The Externship Coordinator position is responsible for delivering quality externship support to IEC students. This is accomplished by helping students to successfully develop the technical and soft skills needed in order to begin and successfully finish required clinical hours at externship. In this role, the Externship Coordinator will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with employers to establish extern opportunities for our students. The Externship Coordinator is the critical link of student support as the student cycles from the didactic portion of their vocational program to the on-site externship hours.

Requirements

  • Diploma, or higher credentialing in the field for which externs will be placed
  • 3 years of experience as an Allied Health professional in a clinical setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including both verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully multitask with accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with little supervision in off-campus settings.
  • Working knowledge of technical and procedural aspects and functions.
  • Basic physiology; safety procedures; ethical standards and practice.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to drive in the United States
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals and legal documents.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management and/or public groups.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all Federal, State, accreditation and institutional policies and procedures
  • Develops relationships with students in the program to access students strengths and weaknesses and to match students skills with extern sites to meet extern completion rates.
  • Builds extern site opportunities by developing, acquiring, recruiting externship sites to secure ongoing availability and expanding volume of externs
  • Successfully maintains relationships with employers to ensure site development and extern completion accountabilities are met.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of various externship documentation, such as Affiliation Agreements and their Exhibits, Initial Site visits, and final externship evaluations.
  • Assists when needed with hands-on/open lab skills training of an assigned course(s) or program according to the IEC standardized curriculum and the course and program objectives.
  • Conducts one-on-one student advisements to ensure the student is ready for externship and/or partnership up with instructors
  • Communicates with Career Services team, Director of Education and the Campus Registrars regarding students at risk and students progress through externship
  • Offers hands-on remediation assistance with externs in an off-campus setting or open lab.
  • Able to work successfully with those of often diverse backgrounds.

  • Proactively maintains a working knowledge of technical and procedural aspects and functions.
