About The Position

Leidos’ Office of Technology (OOT) is seeking an External Technology Engineer to join the Technology Integration – External Technology team. This role is intended for a technically strong, high-potential engineer who is execution-oriented and comfortable working hands-on with emerging external technologies. The engineer will operate at the intersection of external innovation and internal capability, working directly with commercial technology partners and Leidos engineering teams. The primary focus is on evaluating, prototyping, and integrating software- and AI-based technologies, and supporting their transition into Leidos solutions and platforms. This role emphasizes technical depth, sound judgment, and forward progress in a risk-managed environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 0–2 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and maintain quality software code.
  • Experience working with modern software systems or platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly understand new technologies.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed, results-oriented approach to technical work.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks or AI-enabled software systems.
  • Familiarity with system integration, APIs, or cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience evaluating or integrating third-party or commercial technologies.
  • Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD, or containerized environments.
  • Demonstrated high-achiever potential and strong technical ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on technical evaluations of external partner technologies, primarily software and AI-based solutions.
  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept integrations to assess feasibility, performance, and technical fit.
  • Collaborate with external partner engineers to jointly architect integrated solutions with Leidos capabilities.
  • Provide clear, objective technical assessments, including strengths, limitations, integration considerations, and risks.
  • Engage with Leidos sector engineering teams to support effective technology integration and transition.
  • Contribute to technical designs, architectures, and documentation supporting scalable adoption.
  • Stay current with relevant commercial technology and industry trends.
