About The Position

The Department of Global Health of the Boston University School of Public Health is looking for a qualified external instructor to teach GH 854: Data to Dashboards: Building Excel Skills to Support Health Program Decisions. This course is designed for upper-level MPH students who have basic proficiency with Excel. In these uncertain times, managers need to make sound decisions based on data, and good spreadsheet models are important tools in this process. The course will cover robust formulas, graphing and dashboarding techniques, and data analysis through real-world case studies, including cost and utilization analysis, revenue and expense estimation, and performance dashboards for health interventions. Students will have the opportunity to build their own models to apply to a health service challenge of their choosing. The effective date for this position is the Spring 2025 semester, and it will remain open until filled. Candidates must be USA citizens and must be able to teach all classes in person on the BU Medical Campus.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience in public health.
  • Master's or doctorate in public health or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • College-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

Responsibilities

  • Teach GH 854: Data to Dashboards: Building Excel Skills to Support Health Program Decisions.
  • Develop course materials and deliver lectures to upper-level MPH students.
  • Guide students in building their own Excel models for health service challenges.
  • Engage in public health practice and research as part of the Department of Global Health.
