About The Position

Position Purpose: This role serves as the primary coordinator and point of support for all external learners within the Graduate Medical Education department—including medical students, physician assistant (PA) students, nurse practitioner (NP) students, individuals participating in medical job shadowing experiences, and clinic preceptorships. This role also serves as the primary liaison with academic institutions. What you will do: Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Coordinates schedules, learning experiences, evaluations, and issue resolution for external learners (medical observers, medical students, residents, and advanced practice providers). Verifies and maintains required documentation (e.g., background checks, immunization records, orientation materials) in alignment with policies, program expectations, and regulatory requirements. Collaborates with the Manager of Graduate Medical Education and the Medical Director of Medical Education to develop and sustain strong working relationships with preceptors. Continuously evaluates and improves departmental processes, systems, and services, with emphasis on external learner experience and safety. Monitors colleague and student satisfaction, safety indicators, and injury‑prevention measures, implementing corrective actions when needed. Fosters high levels of colleague engagement by clarifying expectations, coaching for performance, supporting continuous learning, and recognizing contributions. Guides colleagues in developing their skills, growth, and organizational fit. Engages in ongoing personal and professional development to support job effectiveness and participates in departmental and medical center education programs as required. Leads, facilitates, coordinates, or participates in meetings, committees, work teams, strategic initiatives, and Performance Improvement activities as assigned. Other duties as needed and assigned by Medical Education leadership. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other Trinity Health and MercyOne policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required, coursework in education, healthcare, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience coordinating educational programs or experience in the identification, development, and implementation of healthcare services or programming.
  • Excellent organizational, collaborative, and written communication skills, with the ability to manage projects effectively.
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and standard AV equipment, along with the capacity to learn new software and tools quickly.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.
