The External Communications Intern will support the Corporate Communications team with extending key messages and brand narratives across external and social channels to help strengthen Magna’s position. Reporting to the Corporate External Communications Manager, this role will help identify story opportunities, draft content, monitor media and industry trends, assist with reporting, and organize shared resources. While primarily focused on external-facing work, the intern will also contribute to integrated communications efforts to ensure consistent messaging.

Requirements

  • Some related experience preferred (communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, digital media, or related fields).
  • High School Diploma
  • Currently attending a College or University, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or a related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and comfortable with AI tools for research and content development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated writing, research, and analytical abilities.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and current digital content trends.
  • Highly organized, attentive to detail, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Support external and social communications activities, including: Assisting with research and story mining across product, technology, business, and corporate communications topics to support integrated content planning.
  • Participating in brainstorming sessions, contributing ideas for storytelling angles, social content formats, and thought-leadership opportunities.
  • Drafting initial outlines and early versions of content (social posts, blog concepts, newsletter items, background materials) for team review and refinement.
  • Supporting relevant integrated communications and media-facing events.
  • Leveraging reporting platforms to track social and earned media analytics and campaign performance, providing insights for optimization.
  • Contribute to Magna’s bi-monthly external media newsletter by gathering inputs, drafting blurbs, and assisting with assembly and proofreading.
  • Maintain and organize shared communications resources such as messaging documents, story libraries, and editorial planning materials.
  • Provide general project and administrative support to the Corporate Communications team as needed.
